Four tips in dealing with allergies during this Indian summer

Indian summer is amongst us and there are a lot of people I know dealing with pesky allergies.  Whether you’re dealing with itchy red eyes or sneezing often, there are effective ways to manage this horrible time of the year.  Here are four useful tips to tackling your allergies successfully.

The first tip is to shut your windows.  A day like yesterday was a beautiful one.  But if the pollen count is high in your area, you may want to shut your windows and doors.  By doing this, you will be protecting your indoor air.  You could also consider installing a HEPA filter on your air-conditioning system.

The second tip is to take a shower soon after you came through the door.  If you had a long day of work or wherever you’ve been, you’re bringing in tiny particles from the outside world.  That’s why you need to refresh yourself by taking a shower to wash away any allergens.  Don’t forget to leave your shoes at the door.

Prepare well for this allergy season.

The third tip to do a nasal rinse.  This will clean away mucus from your nose, as well as ease allergy symptoms.  It could also do away with bacteria.  Buy a rinse kit from your local Walgreens or consider making one yourself.  The recipe for this homemade nasal rinse could be found on the WebMD website.

The fourth and final tip is to allergy-proof your home.  Without a doubt, it pays to keep your home clean.  Keeping your house tidy will curb the allergies away.  However, cleaning agents do come with harsh chemicals which irritate your nasal passages.  So try making your own cleaning products with natural ingredients like vinegar.

There are abundant amounts of information online on beating this allergy season.  One in particular that is informative is www.webmd.com. This health and medical website contains valuable information you need to know to survive the season.  Stay healthy out there!
