Your Kidneys- Why You Shouldn’t Take Them for Granted

I recently watched a very interesting video on various bad habits that could damage your kidneys.  One of those things we tend to don’t do much, especially in the winter season, is not drinking enough water.  Not drinking enough water could lead to developing painful kidney stones.  But our lack of water drinking is just one of the reasons why we shouldn’t take our kidneys for granted.  Here are a few other reasons.

Your kidneys are vital organs to your body’s functioning

Kidneys regulate our blood composition

Kidneys play an instrumental part in filtering your blood to remove excess water and waste products.  These are then secreted from your kidneys as urine.  It enters your kidney and is distributed to minute filtration units known as nephrons.  Our kidneys are vital in keeping your blood composition constant.

Kidneys could be damaged by excessive pain medication

While these medications are useful in easing your chronic pain, they could cause harm to your kidneys.  Overuse of pain medications has been found to decrease blood flow to the kidneys.  As a result, this could lead to a high risk of chronic kidney disease.  This is why it is all the more important to use your medications in moderation.

Hold the salt!  Too much of it will damage your kidneys

It may be a common flavoring aid, but excessive amounts of it could lead to kidney failure.  I am talking about salt.  Excessive amounts of salt in your food could cause hypertension, heart disease and kidney failure.  It ends up stressing your kidneys so much that they eventually end up failing.

Your kidneys are vital organs within your body.  Don’t take advantage of them.  For more information on your kidney’s health, visit www.webmd.com.
