Some years ago, my brother was diagnosed with a condition called attention deficit disorder, otherwise known as ADD. According to the WebMD website, it is currently known as attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. Like millions of Americans, it has inhibit his ability to pay attention sometimes in everyday conversation or keep a job. People with this condition also have trouble being organized or setting goals. I sometimes wonder if I have some instances of it.
As brought out in the previous article, the symptoms normally begin in childhood. With a condition like this, one may think it’s impossible to live a normal life. But it is possible. Here’s how you can still live your life with ADHD.
I read an interesting article on WebMD about a form of mental skills controlled within the frontal lobe of the brain called executive function. These skills are designed to help you get things done such as multi-tasking or managing time. When executive function isn’t working, this could inhibit your ability to work or maintain relationships. That’s when ADHD symptoms start to set in.
How could this be managed? WebMD compiled some steps from the National Center for Learning Disabilities. Try using calendars to keep track of long-term assignments, project due dates, and other important activities. Minimize clutter within your life. Consider meeting with a supervisor on a regular basis to discuss what things you need to improve on in your work performance. I particularly find this step beneficial and will try following it.
There are an abundant of other helpful articles about ADHD such as treatment options, right foods to eat, etc. For more information on these, visit www.webmd.com or the National Center for Learning Disabilities website, www.ncld.org.
