I came upon a recent interesting video about whether consuming apple cider vinegar every day will help with losing weight. I never heard of anything like this- utilizing apple cider vinegar for weight loss. However, after looking at this video, I was able to find out that there’s research that shows that this acidic liquid could help with doing this, along with suppressing appetite and lowering blood sugar. But when using it, it’s important to be cautious when doing so. Here are some of the reasons why.
Is it Good to Drink Apple Cider Vinegar Before Bed?
Drinking apple cider vinegar does have its health benefits, such as lowering blood sugar and losing weight. However, would it be safe to take some of it before going to bed at night? This has been a recent trend among people. There is some evidence that suggests taking a small amount of apple cider vinegar before bed could lower morning blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes, but more research is needed on this.
Even so, most experts are not recommending we make a serious habit of doing this. Consuming an acidic liquid like apple cider vinegar before bedtime has led some people to experience “acid reflux,” says Carla Rodriguez, M.D., internal medicine specialist at Palisades Medical Center. For those who are prone to heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease, drinking apple cider vinegar at least 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime is especially dangerous because they will start to experience burning and discomfort. Most experts recommend taking it earlier in the day instead of at night.
How Can I Use Apple Cider Vinegar to Reduce Belly Fat?
As mentioned earlier, one of the reasons people have been consuming apple cider vinegar is because it could help with reducing belly fat. While more research is needed to fully prove this, there is some evidence that suggests this. One 2009 study tested adults with obesity drinking a 17-ounce beverage with 1 tablespoon of ACV, a second group drinking the same size beverage with 2 tablespoons, and another group not drinking any vinegar daily. Throughout the 12-week treatment period, research shows that the two groups who drank vinegar daily experienced a significant amount of weight loss and less belly fat than the group who hadn’t drunk any vinegar.
Some experts believe the reason apple cider vinegar is so related to weight loss is due to the acetic acid. The acidity in apple cider vinegar may reduce fat storage, suppress appetite, and delay the release of hunger hormones.
How Often Should You Drink Apple Cider Vinegar to Lose Belly Fat?
Although more research is needed, some studies show that those who take apple cider vinegar daily may lose more weight than those who don’t. They even suggest a daily dosage of 1-2 tablespoons of the liquid. However, side effects could likely occur and it may be best to start with a smaller dose and work your way up from there. But before you start considering an apple cider vinegar regimen, please talk to your doctor to see if this is the right direction for you.
Better Alternatives to Using Apple Cider Vinegar
However, if you’re thinking of consuming apple cider vinegar, be sure to dilute it with water. Most experts don’t recommend that you drink apple cider vinegar undiluted because it’s very acidic. Besides leading to heartburn-like problems, drinking the liquid straight up could cause serious dental problems. It could wear down the enamel coating of your teeth. Besides diluting it with water, try using apple cider vinegar in the following safer ways:
- Use it as a salad dressing by mixing it with olive oil and a little bit of honey.
- Mix it with lemon juice, herbs, and spices for daily consumption.
- Add the liquid to an apple cider tonic or another beverage with little to no added sugar.
While it may help with losing belly fat, apple cider vinegar can’t do this alone. You’ll end up having a better chance if you exercise, eat healthy, go to sleep every night at a decent time, and then take the liquid with water.
Have you ever consumed apple cider vinegar to help you lose weight or belly fat? Maybe you might’ve mixed it with some olive oil to create a salad dressing.
