The Best Fruits and Vegetables to Look Out for This Season

Besides reducing your allergies, it’s also important to be healthy this summer. One of the most important parts is eating the right fruits and vegetables. There are plenty of fruits and veggies that are good enough to buy and eat this summer. Which ones are in season? Let’s take a look at some of the best summer season fruits and vegetables.

What are the Best Fruits to Eat in Summer?

During this hot, muggy, and humid season, eating fruits becomes very important to stay hydrated and healthy. These delectable, juicy foods are also beneficial for keeping illness at bay. If you want to meet the nutritional requirements your body needs, here are some of the best fruits that are in season you must try:

  • Mango– This fruit boosts metabolism, strengthens immunity, and even is good for your eyes. The tropical mango is one of the most popular summer fruits that’s packed with antioxidants and stored with 83% water content.
  • Pineapple– You can’t go wrong with this fruit. I mentioned in last week’s post that it contains bromelain, an enzyme that could help with allergies. However, pineapples also have a lot of water content and are a strong source of Vitamin C. Give your digestion a boost with this fruit.
  • Watermelon– Very common in the summertime, watermelons help boost the immune system and fight inflammation.
  • Peach– You’ll find plenty of these juicy fruits in Georgia. Peaches contain high fiber content, along with Vitamins A and C.
  • Grapes– Whether you like them in red, green, or black grapes are another staple in the summertime. They have plenty of nutritional benefits including heart health and memory improvement.

Which Vegetables Should We Eat in the Summer Season?

We all know about our fruits. What about our veggies that are also for our nutritional benefit? Vegetables are always beneficial for your heart health, immune system, and brain health, to name a few. You can eat them raw, dip them in your favorite sauce, cook them, or blend them in a smoothie. But if you’re looking for the best ones that are in the summer season, here are just several that you can incorporate into your diet:

  • Green Beans- These beans are considered to be rich in protein, fiber, and essential minerals. Green beans promote heart and digestive problems.
  • Cucumber- Another good summer vegetable that many put on their salads. The cucumber is low in calories and rich in Vitamin K and beta-carotene.
  • Summer Squash- The summer squash thrives in warmer climates and it’s nutritional for your health. Rich in Vitamins A, C, and B6, it helps in digestion and keeping your skin healthy.
  • Okra- Some people like to eat this veggie fried. Okra supports digestion, bone health, and boosts immunity.
  • Green Chilies- A fiery veggie that’s rich in Vitamins A and C, green chilies help boost immunity and metabolism. It could also alleviate pain.

Which Foods are Best for Weight Loss?

Some of these foods are not only nutritional summer eats that are good for your heart, immune, or digestive system. Many of them are great for keeping your weight down. Some of the ones I just named include pineapples, watermelons, and cucumbers. All of these are great for keeping your calories low and staying active over the summer. There are plenty of leafy veggies that are beneficial for weight loss including broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, and cabbage.

Which Foods Are Good for Your Face?

Some delicious fruits and veggies are good for your body’s health. However, there are plenty that contain water content that’s beneficial for your skin. Mangoes are a good example of this, due to their 83% content. Summer squash is a veggie you could saute with garlic and herbs, but it’s also good for your skin. However, even fruits I didn’t mention earlier such as blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries are packed with antioxidants including one called anthocyanins. This antioxidant helps protect the skin from UV damage.
