Bad news for fans of the produce company North Bay Produce, Inc. – their apples are being recalled. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just announced this week that the Traverse City, Michigan – based company is voluntarily recalling 2,297 cases and two bulk bins of fresh apples. The recall is being issued due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
There are six varieties of apples being recalled. These include Honeycrisp, Fuji, Red Delicious, Jonathan, McIntosh, and Jonamac. The good news is that no illnesses linked to the potentially contaminated apples have been reported at this time. However, the FDA is warning people to toss these apples out if you think you have purchased them. Listeria is fatal and can cause foodborne infections, especially to those with weakened immune systems. So please be careful and exercise caution with the foods you are bringing into your home.
