COVID-19 is so easy to spread that you can get it anywhere- even within your own home. Yes, whether you have a family member who has to go to work or if you’ve only been out twice a week, you have to take the right safety measures inside your home. Defending your home against the virus is another key measure in preventing the spread. Here are some coronavirus home prep tips we must all apply to stay safe.
Take Extra Precautions if you Have to Work
When coming back home from work, you must take extra precautions to wash away any trace of the virus off you. You can’t just walk into the house like normal. Take your shoes off before you enter your home. The virus could live on shoes and you don’t want to spread to your household members. Take a shower as soon as you enter the house. Wash your clothes in the warmest setting and thoroughly dry them.
Preparing to Isolate a Contracted Household Member
In addition to staving it off as soon as you come home from work, you must also prepare for when someone in the house becomes contracted with it. Prepare an isolation room for that person promptly. This person should not move around the house at all. Also, the room should be empty so that the virus doesn’t stay on surfaces too long. You can crack a window open though so the person could get some fresh air. Also, be sure to designate one other member of the family to do the caregiving to the sick person.
Consider a Separate Container of Toothpaste for Everyone
I didn’t think about this, but another good way to protect yourself at home is to have a separate container of toothpaste for each household member. Viruses can be easily spread by each member using the same toothpaste on different brushes. So it may not be such a bad idea to consider doing this. It is also vital that each member replace and disinfect their toothbrushes, floss, and the containers they keep them in.
Be Extra Cautious with your Grocery Deliveries
If you’re using grocery delivery services such as Instacart, you have to show some caution with them. The virus could live on grocery bags, so you must be sure to give your bags or containers a good wipe down. If your delivering takeout from your favorite restaurant, be sure to wipe down those contaminated containers.
