Six fully vaccinated people who attended a Texas outdoor wedding in April came down with the Delta variant. However, those who received the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines reportedly survived. A preprint study from Baylor College of Medicine showed that only one person who’d recently gotten an Indian-made vaccine, Covaxin, died after attending the 92-person wedding. All the breakthrough infections were in guests over the age of 50. This study helps show that while getting vaccinated does protect you, we should still exercise precautions to protect ourselves.

Vaccinated People should still get tested for COVID-19
Despite being fully vaccinated, some Americans still have been experiencing symptoms such as runny nose, sore throat, or cough. This is why some experts such as Rochelle Walensky, the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recommend that vaccinated people should still get a COVID-19 test if they start experiencing symptoms.
“What I would say is if you have those upper-respiratory symptoms and you’ve been vaccinated, you should absolutely get a COVID-19 test,” Walensky said during a White House COVID-19 briefing last week.
However, she does also mention that the vast majority of deaths from the virus have come from unvaccinated people. “Those deaths were preventable with a simple, safe shot,” she said.
We Must Still Exercise Precautions
What this all boils down to is that we must still be careful out there. While we may not have to stay cooped up in our homes anymore, we still follow the protocol in protecting ourselves from this variant. Wear your mask when you’re around crowds of people. Always wash your hands with soap and water or a sanitizer. Whether you’re vaccinated or not, you must continue to work hard in remaining germ-free. This disease is still out there and we must do what is necessary to stay safe.
