Maintaining your Gut Health starts with the foods you eat

I came across a very interesting article on the Mind Body Green website that shares exactly the right foods to eat and avoid to maintain a healthy gut. Written by Gut Health Specialist & Best-Selling Author Vincent M. Pedre, M.D., the article touches on certain foods I didn’t know were considered harmful to your gut, including soy and eggs. Here are some other insightful things from the article.

The vast majority of the soy produced in foods today is genetically modified. Much of this soy is “Roundup ready,” meaning it gets doused with quite a bit of pesticides. As far as eggs, many people develop sensitivity to them. This could be due to the fact that they are high in arachidonic acid, an inflammatory omega-6 fatty acid. The article even states that most commercial eggs come from hens fed an unnatural diet of soy and corn, another food that’s bad for your gut.

Nuts and seeds are good examples of gut-friendly foods.

But what about the foods that are good for your gut? Some of these foods include gluten-free oatmeal, ground flaxseeds and apples. These types of foods are soluble fiber-rich foods which optimize gut health and slow digestion. They also keep you full longer and stabilize your blood sugar. Also, look out for healthy fats, nuts and seeds and leafy greens as nutritious options for your gut.

Those are just some of the foods to look out for in maintaining quality health for your gut. To learn about more foods that are beneficial and not so beneficial to your gut, check out Pedre’s article, “Here’s EXACTLY What to Eat (And What to Avoid) To Heal Your Gut,” on www.mindbodygreen.com.
