How to Cope with the Pandemic Resurgence

This sudden new rise of people becoming infected or dying of the COVID-19 has left many people distressed and concerned.  The CDC has changed its mandate from allowing vaccinated people to no longer wear masks to recommending masks for all people.  Who would’ve thought that a virus that has impacted the world more than a year ago has continued to do so this year?

No doubt this latest resurgence of variants has impacted a lot of people emotionally, physically, and financially.  It has disrupted many people’s plans for this year.  If you’re having trouble coping with the pandemic resurgence, here are a few tips in dealing with it.

Prioritize your Well-being

During these difficult times, it is still important to keep your mental and physical health in order.  I understand you may be suffering from pandemic fatigue.  But you must continue to take care of every aspect of your health.  Eat nutritious, well-balanced meals.  Get regular, physical exercise.  Manage your pre-existing health conditions.  Continue to maintain a balanced, regular schedule.  Stay in contact with your health team either virtually or in person to better manage your health.

Continue to Stay Connected with Loved Ones

While we’re not exactly on a shutdown like last year, it’s still vital that we remain in contact with our loved ones.  Whether in person or virtual, be sure to check in regularly with your family and friends.  They could help you to cope with pandemic fatigue, depression, or any other personal issues you’re dealing with.  It is especially important in case of serious emergencies to remain connected.

Try Breathing Exercises

If you’ve been experiencing signs of anxiety, take a little time in your day to breathe.  Breathing exercises are essential in calming us down from our day-to-day stress.  Sometimes we all need to take a little time to breathe in and out.  Try turning off your phone, TV, or computer to do some breathing exercises for 30 minutes.  Meditate on something meaningful to you, whether it’s scriptures or something else.  If your mind starts to wander, simply return your focus to your breath.

Reach out to Help Others

Another good way to cope with this resurgence is to help others dealing with it.  There might be someone you know who is a little depressed or just tired of this pandemic.  Consider giving them a call and ask what you could do for them.  You could buy them some groceries or cook them a meal.  Whether it is, helping others in times of need will always make you feel good about yourself.  It also allows you to get out of the house and do something with your time.  Many of my fellow friends in other places have been organizing and dispensing relief during this crisis.

Continue to Hang in There

I know this resurgence has discouraged a lot of people.  Most of you who may be vaccinated have likely been planning to get away somewhere.  But now that these new variants have developed, you may be rethinking your plans.  However, don’t feel too low about this pandemic resurgence.  Just continue to hang in there, stay positive, and stay busy.  By doing all of these tips, you will strive to make the most of this pandemic.
