How to Control your Constant Urge to Always Eat Sweets

Have you ever had those urges to eat sweets such as cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and pies? Some people have this problem and it could also happen to us women. However, eating too much of these sugary foods is harmful to your health. If you’re going through a constant urge to always eat something sweet or know someone who is, here are a few tips for controlling those urges.

Take a Hot Shower

Have you ever thought about taking a hot shower to alleviate those sweet cravings? Yes, a nice hot, but not seriously hot, shower or bath could be effective at stopping cravings. Being in one could cause you to have dazed, sitting in a sauna feeling. Taking a hot shower or bath could also lower your blood sugar and burn calories.

A 2017 study done by Loughborough University showed the effect a hot bath could have on our blood sugar control. A group of scientists recruited 14 men to take part in a study where they were assigned to an hour-long soak in a hot bath or an hour of cycling. They not only measured how many calories the participants burned but their blood sugar for 24 hours after each trial. Results showed that the overall blood sugar response to soaking in a hot bath and cycling were similar. However, blood sugar levels after eating were about 10% lower when participants took a hot bath compared to exercising.

Do a Few Sets of Exercises

That’s not to say that exercise isn’t effective at curbing sweet cravings, too. When you have that sudden urge for something sugary, start getting active. Doing something like a nice, brisk walk around the park could help release endorphins, or feel-good chemicals in your brain, that can alleviate your cravings. You will also be distancing yourself away from those cookies and pies that you’ve become addicted to. Try doing a few sets of body weight exercises such as push-ups or bodyweight squats.

Drink Plenty of Water

If you really to control your cravings, drinking plenty of water should do the trick. Some have said that dehydration can cause you to develop a sugar rush. Water is the ultimate purifier in curbing those cravings. So try to drink six to eight 8-ounce glasses per day. You can also drink some herbal tea without any sugar to reduce your sweet cravings.

Combine your Favorite Sweet with a Nutritious Food

Here’s another good idea I’ve found that could help your cravings- combining your favorite sweet treat with nutritious food. Try dipping a fruit filled with potassium such as a banana in chocolate sauce. You can create your trail mix of dark chocolate, almonds, pepita seeds, walnuts, etc. This one in the picture below is a good example. By doing this, you’ll be getting your favorite sweet along with some food filled with vitamins and minerals such as nuts and fruits.
