How the location of your acne could affect your health

Acne – it’s a pain for a lot of people to deal with.  But did you know that the location of it may have something to do with what’s happening inside your body?  You can learn a lot about your overall health based on where pimples pop up on your face.  Whether you’re breaking out mostly on your nose or cheeks, this following guide could help you identify the possible causes of your skin problems, as well as the most effective zit-zapping tactics.

The first area of the face where people are prone to breakouts are the chin or jaw.  This possibly might mean your hormones are out of control.  Hormonal acne is caused by an excess of the male hormone androgen (which includes testosterone).  A hormone – related breakout might also occur about 7-10 days before a woman’s period.  What products are best for these type of acne breakouts?  Prescription – strength products are good to look at because they treat hormonal flare – ups.  Dr. Amanda Doyle, MD, a dermatologist at the Russak Dermatology Clinic in New York City, suggests asking your dermatologist about Aczone, a topical gel that is commonly prescribed to treat hormonal acne.

The second area to look at is near the edges of your face.  If you breakout frequently here, that means your beauty products are clogging your pores.  You can try switching your beauty routine for a few weeks to incorporate more natural products and see if you notice any skin improvements.  Or, consider having your dermatologist or doctor look at the ingredients in your favorite products (makeup, hair, skincare included) to point out any common irritants.

The third area to look at for flare-ups is the forehead.  When this happens, this normally means you’re stressed, sleep-deprived, or have digestive or liver issues.  Doyle also says that in this case pimples here are often linked to the digestive system.  She also says forehead acne indicate irregular sleep schedule.  So because of this, you may want to consider making some adjustments in your sleep schedule.      Facial breakouts such as acne could be a pain to deal with.  But if you follow these helpful tips, you will be on the path to beating this problem.  For more information on combating acne, check out the article, “Acne Face Mapping!
