How Specific are your Health Goals for the New Year?

So we’re officially in the New Year of 2023. During this time, most people start setting some goals for their work, life, or anything else. However, some also start setting goals for their overall health. Some of the most common ones include losing weight, exercising more, and eating healthier. While those goals are beneficial, it’s more to be specific when setting them. How do you plan on going about doing this? Are your goals attainable and realistic? Let’s learn how we could do better in setting new year health goals that we can achieve.

Are your health goals specific, attainable, and realistic for the New Year?

Are your Goals Attainable and Realistic?

When setting health goals, it’s important to not only be specific but make sure that they’re realistic. You don’t want to set any goals for your body that are too out of your reach. For example, some people’s health goal is to lose maybe 10-20 pounds. However, have you created a plan as to how you’re going to do this? Are you going to realistically have the time to achieve this? Setting small, attainable goals keeps you from being overwhelmed and disappointed when you don’t reach them. Don’t try to do too much all at once.

What about your New Year Fitness Goals?

Speaking of losing weight, what are your fitness goals for the new year? When making these types of goals, figure out which aspect of your body you want to concentrate on. Do you want to focus on strengthening your upper body or lower body? Whatever you want to focus on, start writing out a plan regarding which types of exercises you want to implement in your routine. Write down how often you want to do them. Pick exercise routines that are comfortable and realistic for you. Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity on most days of the week.

How are you Changing your Eating Habits?

When trying to lose a certain amount of pounds this year, eating right is just as important as exercising often. What different eating habits do you plan on implementing this year? Do you want to eat fewer junk foods? Perhaps you might consider following a new diet plan. It’s important to consult your doctor in finding which plan is best for you before making any decisions.

But in the meantime, be sure you’re making room for the basic items you need to maintain a balanced diet. Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies daily. Add in the plant proteins you need such as beans, nuts, and peas. Eat more whole-grain bread, cereals, and healthy fats. Reduce the amount of processed food you’re eating as well.

Why Would you Set a Health Goal?

When making any goals, especially new year health goals, it’s important to have a “Why” for them. This is your purpose in achieving your goals. Why do you want to lose 10 pounds this year? Why do you want to start a plant-based diet? If it’s because someone else is doing it, this wouldn’t be enough to help you achieve your goals. Remembering your sole purpose in setting this health goal is going to be the motivation you need to achieve it. Knowing your “Why” in setting a health goal is the push you need to accomplish it.

So what are your health goals for 2023 and how specific are they? What fitness and eating habits do you hope to achieve this year? Are they attainable and realistic? Feel free to share them in the comments section below.
