How Black Women could Take Care of their Bodies and Minds in these Hard Times

Taking care of our health is a big job for all of us.  But for black women today, we must especially be mindful of our bodies and minds as they continue to change.  As we grow older, our health is truly our wealth now more than ever.  Here’s how we could continue to nourish our physical and mental health during these difficult times.

We only have one body and one mind. Let us take care of it.

We Only Have One Mind and Body

The obvious reason we must be more mindful of our mind and body health is that we only have one of each.  If we lose our minds, we wouldn’t be able to function throughout our daily responsibilities.  If we let our bodies deteriorate, we would also be in unfortunate shape and bedridden.  So we all must work hard in doing small things to nurture our mental and physical health.  Those small things add up in having a functioning mind and body.

Eating Healthy and Exercise is Essential

I know that this has been said often, but eating right and exercising will certainly do both our bodies and minds good.  What we putting into our bodies affect our weight, our mental health, and our overall life.  Implementing a little exercise into your life will make for a well-balanced lifestyle.  You could implement a little exercise for your mind by engaging in some journaling.  This is kind of hobby has proven to be beneficial for women during this pandemic.

Put Yourself First

We as black women love to help people as much as we can.  We fill a lot of roles as mothers, sisters, daughters, caregivers, the list goes on.  However, sometimes we fall short in taking care of ourselves before we take care of others.  It’s important to remember that we are not “superwomen.”  We must take care of ourselves mentally, emotionally, and physically before taking care of someone else.  Setting aside a day for yourself is vital for self-care.

So it’s essential that we as black women look after our mental and physical health in this pandemic and beyond.  We have only one mind and body each.  Let’s not take our life for granted.
