How Black Women could Strengthen their Spiritual Health

For the past three weeks, I’ve been focusing on my fellow black women in honor of Black History Month.  I’ve been sharing some informative and useful ways we could nourish our beautiful hair, take better care of our skin, our bodies, and our minds.  But now I’m going to dig a little deeper and discuss ways we can improve our spiritual health.  Our spirituality has a big impact on our mental health.  However, this is something many tend to take for granted.  But here are ways we can do better to strengthen it.

Read the Bible Daily

Many people don’t do this enough.  By this, I am talking about reading the Bible more.  This book is known for being a book to navigate life.  This is why reading it every day is very important for us.  When I read the Bible, I feel refreshed and that I’ve learned something new about Jehovah and his son every day.  Yes, reading God’s Word as much as we can is a great way to strengthen our spiritual health.

Reading God’s Word every day helps in strengthening our spiritual health

Meditate and Apply What We Learn

Once we strive to start reading God’s beautiful letter to us, we must take the time to meditate and put it into application.  Meditation helps us to focus and ponder over our thoughts after reading.  When you meditate, you start to deeply analyze what you are learning.  As you’re reading, try to formulate questions you want to find the answers to.  This will help you to grow spiritually as a woman.  It’s also beneficial to your mental health.

Once you’ve done meditating on what you’ve learned, you will more than likely feel compelled to apply it.  If you learned about the importance of giving to others in Acts 20:35, put what you’ve learned into application by actually giving more than receiving.

Always Pray

Whether you’re going through something good or bad, you have ample enough opportunities to strengthen your spiritual health.  Some people view prayer as a form of therapy, but it’s more of a special means to draw close to God.  We can turn to God as a close dear Father and Friend.  He is keenly interested in our innermost thoughts, fears, and desires.  Don’t be afraid to turn to him as a trusted friend to confide in.  You will feel the weight of the world lifted off your shoulders once you pour out your heart to God.

Physical and mental health is very important for us black women to take care of.  But we must be aware of our spiritual health, too.  If we don’t have a real relationship with God, it will impact those other aspects of our health in some type way.  It’s truly not easy to keep ourselves completely healthy in this world.  But if we continue to do the best we can, we should be okay.

What about you?  As a black woman, what aspect of your health do you feel needs to be improved on?  Don’t be afraid to share in the comments below.  I hope you enjoyed my month- long spotlight on black women and their health.
