Have Work from Home Fatigue?- 5 tips to Re-Energize Yourself When Working Remotely

Working from home could have its positives and negatives. You do get to save money on gas and parking because you don’t have to drive to work. You do have the ability to save money on food and eat healthier because you’re not eating out as much. During these pandemic times, it is a safer environment to be in as an employee.

However, it does take some discipline to be able to remain focused on completing work assignments at home. It does take some motivation to avoid those distractions preventing you from accomplishing these tasks. Some may be feeling the condition of work from home fatigue. If this is you, what best practices are there in re-energizing yourself to be more productive as a remote worker? Here are 5 good tips to give your mind and body a boost when working from home.

Take More than One Break Each Day

When working from home, you must get in the habit of taking a few breaks each day. Take 5-minute breaks away from your computer to just stretch and unwind. Take 5-10 minutes to step outside the house and see daylight. Take half an hour to make yourself something quick to eat for lunch. Whatever it is you do, make sure you are doing it away from your computer.

Taking more than just one break each day allows your mind to recharge and refocus. You will feel more energized when getting back on that computer and finishing your work for the day.

Maintain a Support System

Another important aspect of re-energizing yourself working at home is having a support system. This support system is usually your boss and co-workers. Be sure you are staying in touch with them via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or any other video conferencing app your company uses. Message them about an important project or just to simply say, “Hello.” Hop on a video call if you prefer to see and hear your co-workers. Staying in this virtual social contact will help you to stave off “WFH fatigue.”

Change your Environment

In some cases, you may have to just change the setting of where you work. If you’ve been feeling bored or uninspired in your room or wherever else you work every day, you may have to change your scenery. Some people opt to work in a different room or outside. Others consider switching things up and working in a coffee shop. Wherever it is you work, changing your environment could be a great way to boost your productivity.

Consider trying different rooms when working from home.

Experiment with Different Strategies

Ever since the work from home trend has fully exploded during this pandemic, there has been plenty of advice articles on how to be a productive WFH worker or how to be effective at working from home. Every one of these articles has given different forms of advice. Because of this, why not try to implement some of these articles’ tips within your working routine? If this one article’s advice doesn’t work for you on Day 1, try considering the next advice column’s words of wisdom. This is called experimenting with different ways to be productive working from home.

Reward Yourself a Little Incentive

Parents give their children rewards for doing well on a test or a report card. Why not reward yourself for successfully finishing a project or assignment? This could be a cup of ice cream or a chance to watch your favorite TV show. Treat this prize as a boost of motivation to finish your work efficiently, accurately, and productively.

Working from home has its pros and cons just as much as working in an office. But if you follow these tips, you will be on the path to being a productive WFH worker.
