If you have a puppy, could he be making you sick? That’s what a new study is saying this week from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). The study says that puppies could be linked to a multi-state outbreak of an infection that’s resistant to multiple drugs.
This outbreak is known as a strain of Campylobacter jejuni and it has been reported in 13 states and so far 30 people have been infected. However, no deaths have been reported. Many of the cases had contact with puppies from pet stores or were employees at pet stores.
The symptoms for this condition include diarrhea, stomach cramps and fever. It usually last for about a week. The good news is that people usually recover without antibiotics. Word to the wise: Be sure to take your new puppy to the vet before having any contact with him. For more information on this story, visit www.cnn.com.
