Could Cold Hands and Feet be a Serious Health Sign?

During this time of the year, we all start to have cold hands and feet.  On paper, this is normal due to the frigid temperatures.  But if you frequently have this problem, could this be a harmful thing for your body?  Here are some interesting reasons I’ve found out why you have been experiencing this condition.

Because this condition occurs more often in women than in men, it could be due to high levels of estrogen.  In youth, the estrogen hormone is higher in women than in men.  Some women have inconsistent menstrual cycles, which could cause fluctuating estrogen levels making them sensitive to colder temperatures.  Whatever the case, be sure to visit your doctor to make sure that this isn’t a serious disorder.

If you’ve been experiencing an abnormal case of cold hands and feet, visit your doctor about this.

Did you know that caffeine and smoking could cause cold hands and feet?  Although most people turn to these things to keep them warm, the opposite ends up happening.  According to researchers, caffeine may contribute to the narrowing of blood vessels and nicotine cools down the skin temperature.  So you may want to do yourself a favor in control your cravings of these two things.

Cold hands and feet are considered a side effect for disorders impacting our immunity system, blood circulation, and nervous system.  Some of these include diabetes, lupus, and scleroderma.  Managing these diseases with appropriate medication and lifestyle changes can reverse abnormal coldness in hands and feet.

So if you’ve been experiencing an abnormal case of cold hands and feet, go visit your doctor to make sure it isn’t anything serious.  Take care of yourself during this winter season!  For more information on cold hands and feet being a serious health sign, visit www.healthiguide.com.
