Let’s face it- many of us are struggling with this current quarantining situation. Quarantining has led some people to develop certain unfortunate addictions. One of those is indulging in alcohol. Because these are depressing times that we are living in, it could be so easy to succumb to this addiction. But there is a way out of this. Here are four of those ways.
Control your buying habits
So the first way we can fight the urge to overindulge is to control our buying habits. Because we all have been experiencing some form of anxiety during this pandemic, it could be so easy to find something that could potentially ease it. One of those things is alcohol. But if you find yourself always heading to the liquor store, you might want to reassess your buying habits. Try asking yourself, “Am I spending too much money on alcoholic drinks?” or “Do I need to control this spending habit?” If this sounds like you, now is the time to set some limits on how much you’re spending.
Be selective in your social media
Now more than ever, we are utilizing social media to entertain ourselves. Because of this, we must be careful of the information we are viewing on it. Try to avoid photos or videos of people engaging in alcoholic beverages. This could become a trigger for former alcoholics in getting back into their old habits. Strive to be selective in your use of social media and video apps. Find encouraging things to watch on these platforms. Also, be sure to be selective on who you’re following on social media.
Be careful of your TV viewing
Sometimes, what you’re viewing on TV could be a trigger into alcohol indulging. For example, if you’re regularly watching that favorite TV show of yours that features people engaging in alcohol, you may want to refrain from watching that show. Try to watch more TV shows or programs that contain any use of alcohol. This will keep you from succumbing to alcoholism.
Engage in more positive entertainment
During these difficult times, we need something positive to keep us in good spirits. Try watching more entertainment that makes you laugh. Avoid watching the news all the time. Occasionally, play some music to relieve that stress off you. Positive music is a great escape in keeping you away from the dangers of alcoholism.
During this quarantine, many people are drifting into depression and the addictive habit of alcoholism. Don’t put yourself down this road. Stay safe and watch your drinking habits.
