This week, I have fish on the brain because I’m about to head out on a cruise to Alaska. Because of this, I thought it was a good idea to talk about one of the most popular forms of protein- fish. Seafood has plenty of nutritional benefits that help us stay healthy and keep our weight down. Let’s talk about five of the healthiest, high-protein fish that promotes a weight loss regimen.
Salmon
I’ve talked a lot about how nutritional this first fish is. Salmon is a great seafood that’s packed with omega-3 fatty acids and protein that’ll help you boost your metabolism and keep your weight down. You can buy it either farmed or wild caught. Many experts prefer wild-caught salmon because of its high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids and little exposure to contaminants. This is because it’s found in its natural habitat. Canned salmon is also a good, less expensive option and a good source of nondairy calcium.
Cod
Many adults and kids adore this fish and like to eat it with french fries, or chips. Cod is a healthy fish that is low in fat and naturally rich in protein. It’s also a good source of vitamin B12. This white fish is popular in the country of England and is widely available there. Serve your delicious cod grilled or baked.
Trout
Like cod, trout is another great source of vitamin B12. It’s also a strong source of food-based vitamin D that is vital for your immune system. Next to canned salmon, trout is another great source of omega-3 fatty acids, potassium, selenium, and vitamin B6. Lake trout is a good option to try when it’s sourced from good places, such as Lake Superior’s Michigan and Minnesota waters.
Sardines
Sardines is an oily fish that can be brought fresh, frozen, or canned. The latter is said to be the most nutritious out of all of them because you can eat the bones and the skin. The bones dissolve when you eat them and are higher in calcium than fresh sardines. Sardines are also high in other vitamins such as vitamins B3 and B12. You’ll also find plenty of iron, selenium, and zinc in this food.
Tuna
Another popular fish, especially the canned version, is that people like to eat with crackers. Tuna is a great source of protein and contains plenty of essential amino acids that the body needs. When consumed in moderation, tuna is a good nutritional food you can add to a more balanced diet that also supports your energy levels and the nervous system. It also contains omega-3 fatty acids, which help promote weight loss.
There is plenty of nutritional fish you can add to your diet for an extra intake of vitamins, protein, potassium and so much more. Adding popular seafood such as salmon, tuna, or trout to your diet will prove to be effective in keeping your weight down and giving your body the nutrition that it needs.
