Thai food is one of the most delicious and popular cuisines today. It also happens to be one of my favorites. While it is great to eat from a quality restaurant, it may be even better to cook and eat it at home. Believe it or not, there are plenty of easy Thai recipes you can make at home. I did some research and compiled five basic Thai recipes you can collect and make in your spare time. Enjoy!
Tom Yum Goong
Tom Yum is one of my favorite Thai dishes. This dish is a hot and sour soup that’s so fragrant and savory to the palate. Tom Yum Goong uses all the essential Thai herbs such as lemongrass, shrimp stock, galangal, and makrut lime leaves. Instead of using shrimp stock, you can use chicken stock as a good substitute. Add some Thai chilies to turn up the heat in your soup. Garnish it with a touch of cilantro and you’re ready to eat. It only takes 20 minutes to prep and 10 minutes to cook.
Thai Green Curry
This delicious-looking curry dish could be made as a chicken or a vegan dish. It comes with a green curry paste you don’t have to make from scratch (unless you want to). Green curry is one of the most famous dishes in Thai cuisine. It is easy to make. Add in some coconut milk, water or unsalted vegetable stock, palm sugar, soy sauce or vegan fish sauce, fried tofu, bamboo shoots strips, winter melon or Thai eggplant, red bell pepper, Thai basil leaves, and Makrut lime leaves into the Vegan Thai Green Curry. For the chicken green curry dish, replace the veggie stock with unsalted chicken stock and the fried tofu with the boneless, skinless chicken breasts.
Thai Red Curry Kabocha Squash
This very filling vegan recipe is another one you can try at home. Thai Red Curry Kabocha Squash is a delicious dish where the main ingredient kabocha squash is simmered together with a nice array of vegetables such as carrots and onions in a coconut-based sauce. Add in some tamarind paste, fish sauce, and red curry paste for that savory, authentic flavor. Serve over some jasmine rice and garnish with cilantro, chopped peanuts, lime wedges, and pomegranate seeds. You could serve 8 people with Thai Red Curry Kabocha Squash in about an hour.
Easy Thai Chicken
If you’re not a vegan, you might be in the mood for some tender, moist, and sticky chicken. This recipe is so easy I just may try it myself. Easy Thai Chicken is a great 30-minute weeknight meal consisting of bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs covered with a deliciously sweet and sticky sauce. Sweet chili sauce, ginger, fish sauce, garlic, reduced-sodium soy sauce, siracha, and a juice of 1 lime make up this irresistible sauce. After searing your chicken thighs into the sauce, you finish it off by baking and broiling your chicken thighs till they have a slightly charred, caramelized look. Garnish them with cilantro and chopped peanuts. Consider this a great recipe idea to make for the whole family.
Thai Curry Noodle Soup
When you need something warm, delicious, and Thai-inspired, you have to try this curry noodle soup recipe. This full-of-flavor soup warms you up like a gentle blanket and keeps you happy for the rest of the night. Thai Curry Noodle Soup contains coconut milk, 2 large desiree potatoes, 1 onion, coconut oil, yellow curry paste, chicken stock, fish sauce, 1 lime, skinless chicken thigh fillets, dried rice noodles, brown sugar, baby spinach, and 1 long red chili. Once you’re done dumping everything in a large saucepan, you’re ready to garnish this noodle soup with Thai basil leaves, baby spinach, and coriander leaves. Enjoy while laying on your couch watching a movie.
Cooking Thai dishes at home doesn’t have to be too hard. There are plenty of basic Thai recipes anyone could make. Several of them are healthy and vegan-friendly as well. However, with all these recipes, you need to have something to collect them in. Here’s a free printable meal planner I’ve created in Canva you can use to help with that.
