4 Healthy Habits That Aren’t Really Good for You

We all have certain habits that hard for us to break.  Some of these habits could be good or bad for us.  But did you know that certain habits are known for being healthy but in reality aren’t good for us?  Let’s examine these common habits that are deemed as “healthy” but are ones we should consider either doing in moderation or not at all.

Counting Calories

Most people do this type of habit as a way of staying abreast with how many calories they’re eating each day.  However, counting the number of calories you’re eating does not help you lose weight.  Research shows that the quality and content of the food you eat matters more to your health than the number of calories it has.  For example, eating 100 calories of fish and 100 calories of cake don’t exactly serve your body in the same way.  Choose foods with healthy, natural ingredients over processed ones and you should be fine.

Heavy Cardio Sessions

When some people exercise, they tend to go overboard with it.  However, this could be a detriment to your health.  Studies show that cardio sessions lose their effectiveness after 30-40 minutes.  In other words, longer and sweatier cardio exercise sessions aren’t always better for you.  Try waking up your muscles with high energy intervals such as sprints.  Also, pair your cardio with some strength training exercises such as lifting weights.

Beware of Antibacterial Soap

A lot of us are doing this a lot lately, thanks to COVID.  I am of course referring to washing our hands.  However, it’s also important that we be careful with the types of soaps we use.  One particular soap that is bad for you is antibacterial soap.  These types of soaps typically strip your skin of its natural moisture and could create resistant bacteria.  This could likely cause nasty infections.  Instead, opt for a gentle cleanser for your skin and is effective at fighting germs.

Fat-Free Foods

Just because certain foods have fat-free labels on them, doesn’t mean that they are exactly healthy.  When most people want to lose weight, they tend to gravitate towards foods with the label “fat-free.”  However, that’s not always the best route to go.  Research shows that when fat is eliminated from food, sugar and carbs are raised to compensate for taste.  Because of this, you’re probably might be better off with foods that are full-fat after all.

These are just some of the most typical habits that may be perceived as “healthy,” but in reality may not be.  We all have habits we either need to break or do more.  But as long as you engage in any favorite activity of yours in moderation, you should be fine in living a decent, healthy lifestyle.
